1. Summarize the past year
The first rule of successful planning is the right attitude. Sit back, take your favorite notebook, pen, and analyze your year for your achievements, failures, new acquaintances. After this stage, the plan for the next year will begin to mature in the head.
If you made a plan a year earlier, be sure to summarize: how much you have accomplished, why you could not translate any of the plans. If from year to year you set the same goal for yourself, but you can’t get off the ground in any way - maybe you really don’t really need it and the goal is imposed by the environment or advertising, or there may be a problem in the inaccurate statement of the goal .
2. Define the concept of the year
It’s good if you can formulate the main goal or theme of the year before you begin the detailed planning. Before setting any goal, make sure that this is exactly what you want with all your heart, that it meets your interests and affections.
3. Break goals into tasks
Test each goal with questions, the answers to which, as a rule, allow you to shorten the list of goals: “What will happen if this does not happen?”, “What am I ready to pay?”, “What do I create in myself and in the world by achieving this goal? ".
If the goal is really important, then break it down into specific tasks. For convenience, you can divide them into conditional 6 lists: “work”, “family”, “relations”, “money”, “interests”, “spiritual development”.
4. Check the tasks for compliance with the main criteria
If your tasks do not meet at least one of the criteria, you need to either reformulate it or remove it from the plan altogether:
Concreteness and measurability: your list should not contain an abstract “play sports”, but a specific “run 1200 km in a year”.
Limited time: you need to run 25 kilometers a week in order to have time to run 1200 kilometers a year, and not run frantically all December for the passage.
Reachability: can I theoretically run as much?
Relevance: Do I need to run at all if I plan to intensively treat my heart?
5. Make a plan to plan
The first step to start execution is to distribute the subtasks in time, making lists of tasks for a month, a week, a day with periodic reminders. Use any functionality convenient for you: scheduler applications for smartphones, google-calendar, paper lists.
Of course, you cannot plan the whole year by the hour, but to outline a general plan and periodically return to it for clarification is a feasible task.
6. Create a system of accounting and control of success
Be sure to note all your intermediate successes, whether it is the lost kilograms, kilometers traveled, money earned or books read. The “checkmark” for fulfilling the plan encourages you to continue in the same spirit and simply cheers you up. Reward yourself for achievements.
7. Adjust plans
Only ideal movie people never make a mistake. You can set overstated goals or outline the wrong ways to achieve them. Do not be afraid to admit it and adjust your plans.
For example, you want to lose weight and have developed a thorough plan for running training. But if already in the process it became clear that running is not yours, then get your own way using another method. But in no case do not abandon the goal!
8. Believe in yourself
“If you think that you are capable of something, you are right, if you think that you will not succeed, you are also right,” Henry Ford.
Belief in yourself and your abilities is one of the main secrets of success. Give two people the same goals and the one who believes will find ways to achieve it, and the one who does not believe will seek excuses and excuses. Look again at the list of your future achievements for this year. Do you really believe that you can do this?
The setting of the main tasks for the year serves as beacons that show the direction of movement and development with more detailed planning. It’s better to plan less and do everything - so your mood by the end of the year will obviously be good. Ready? Work.ua wishes you a successful planning!
